'Glib opinions' eh? Talk to builders and you will find a shortage of brick layers, carpenters and ground workers generally. Even paying £150/day builders tell me it's hard to find good staff. HS2 is paying more than this and is mopping up workers. So the grandiose building plans for Ealing are stalling. In West Ealing apart from the Manor Road tower block and the Majestic Wine tower blocks there are no signs of 'new starts'. Of course we also have the abandoned half built tower block in Dean Gardens car park. The failed Henry Construction disappeared months ago and no sign that another developer has taken it on. Planning permission for two major developments on Uxbridge Road /Broadway West Ealing were obtained months ago - but no sign of any demolition even being started. Angela Rayner's target of 300,000 new home completions every year was, and still is, just pie in the sky. |
