James Putland, you might discover that plenty of people on this forum and elsewhere are fully aware of how the planning system works and how developers operate. A minimum expectation of 25 percent profit on every development. Little wonder there’s no fix for the ‘housing crisis’. What they also understand is that Ealing council, and others, make huge promises about so-called affordable housing at the outset, then go very quiet when the reality hits. It would make no difference to residents if the council was Labour, Tory or anything in between. Those ‘glib opinions’ you happily dismiss are from people genuinely worried about how the areas in which they live are changing beyond recognition without anybody lustrr we Ning to them. The John Lewis proposal at West Ealing is a case in point. Ealing council abdicates its statutory responsibility to decide on the planning application (presumably Peter ‘no more tall towers’ Mason didn’t want the embarrassment of being proven a liar) and it’s left to resident groups to challenge a wholly inappropriate scheme. |
