| That’s a sweeping generalisation of course. Take the time to look at the arguments against the current building programmes in Ealing and you’ll see that most objections are very valid. Much of what’s built won’t address the housing need, which is really for old fashioned council houses. Our council could build these (others have) but won’t because it’s not attractive for thru developer chums. The proportion of affordable homes in most of these developments is laughable. Friary Park in Acton is a massive building project, and the number of dwellings has been increased but the number of those that will be social housing will be 73 fewer than were on the now demolished original site! The side of towers is what really concerns people though. The John Lewis proposal (which the council totally abdicated its legal duty to consider) will dwarf neighbouring houses, blocking out light to those homes. I wonder if you would be so keen to have that next door to you? I doubt it! |
