Like my grandparents and my late mother and family I shall sweep away the leaves outside my house and over the drain in the road . Nobody will slip over near me and water can go down the drain. Everybody did that in my early days..ie . starting in the late 30's up until the mid 80's. We had glorioius bonfires in the Autumn as well. Nobody moaned about the smoke as we all did it at the same weekend. Neighbours used to talk to each other as well in those days We all knew each other and were there for each other. I 'm lucky in that I am in a street where many people have lived all their lives in their pretty homes. I have watched their chilodren grow up and become parents themselves. Sadly they are all too busy to do the leaf clearance outside their housesa though ..school run..elderly parents to look after etc. I notice the Council have not cleared the leaves in the small rose gardens yet . Tricky walking through them on the slippery paths and also difficult to clear up after your dog as it is a nightmare trying to find their poo among the brown leaves. The nice man clearing the bins and the food rubbish from the benches said the Council have no money to employ people to look after the roads , parks and gardens . He can only clear the bins every two days ! . |
