Beryl, a petition is an interesting idea but the council isn’t interested in resident views. Believe me, a 3,500 petition wouldn’t sway the self-righteous incompetents in Perceval House. It’s been tried before on other issues. I was told by the hugely talented Dreary Costigan that garden waste collection was operating at a loss, hence the decision to increase the charges and reduce the service. It is still expected to run at a loss this year. Apparently Labour voters are quite happy at this approach, particularly if they are union members awaiting a substantial pay increase. Strangely, most other London boroughs seem to manage 12 month collections at much lower cost. Needless to say, no effort was made to find out why. Dreary couldn’t tell me what the garden waste lorry crews will be doing for the three to four month sabbatical the service will have. One presumes they aren’t on those terrible zero hours contracts Labour so despises. We should be told. Meanwhile, avoid the leaf drifts on the pavements. Walking in cycle lanes is probably safer! |
