Personally, until I need to change/upgrade. I eventually changed my 14yo car (from new) last month because of ULEZ but would have kept it but need to care for my Mum. I have always been a petrolhead so always try to keep up with the industry news even if I can’t afford it. I have noticed that a lot of the new EV car sales are mainly as result of low BIK and using company tax-deductible PCP or lease and then jump onto a new one in 3-4 years if that and repeat, some change it after a couple of years. Those buying privately tend to not use the PCP/Lease method (not saying they don’t but potentially not economical unless you get a car allowance with work or salary sacrifice). Also, no one buys an EV older than 6/7/8 years due to the battery warranty expiring and a new battery (and some have an auxiliary battery) which is very expensive to replace. EVs will probably end up like VHS, the more commonly used option and not necessarily the best option whether it is environment, finance and convenience. I mean BEV milk floats have been around since 1951 and generally BEVs have been around since Victorian times. |
