Also, like it or not, we live in a much more branded/consumerist world now. The recipients of your gifts would perhaps have liked them more if they were an iPod rather than a necklace made of shells. I am being flippant here but think you know what I am getting at. The price of everything - the value of nothing. We're getting OT now, so a few shops have closed in West Ealing, two that spring to mind are Woolworths and Poundland. Woolies was a bit rubbish anyway, didn't move with the times and Poundland was on a short lease. Look at what is still there doing business, Butchers, Fishmongers, loads of Cafes, Sainsbury's, Mobile phone shops, Wilkinsons, florist stall, greengrocers, discount shops, Off licenses, hairdressers, nail bars, bakers and as much fried chicken as you can eat! Considering the shift towards on line shopping and the biggest, deepest recession for decades, West Ealing is still very active. |
