No Councillor comments on this interesting and amusing thread. Parts of the centre of West Ealing are somewhat depressing but I've lived in West Ealing for over 30 years and I like it! Town centre shopping centres are in decline throughout the UK. No-one seems to know how to revive them or whether revival is possible or desirable. If we just let 'the Market decide' (Ealing Council's current strategy) we'll probably finish up with pound shops, charity shops and very little else. Paradise Fields retail park just 3 miles north west of W13 does however seem to be flourishing. No empty shops here and the big car park is heavilly used. West Ealing Neighbours has proposed establishing an arts and crafts market in the centre of West Ealing. This builds on the incredible success of the annual St James Chuch arts and craft show. However the teams of elected Councillors, salaried lawyers and regenerationists at Ealing Council don't seem to know what to do with this creative idea. |
