Those of you familiar with the endless holes dug on the South Ealing Road each year to fix gas leaks on some of the oldest operating gas mains in the country (up to 150 years old in places?) will be pleased to know that Cadent (formerly National Grid, and before that Transco) has started to replace these old mains. The project runs from the A4 along the South Ealing Road to the Uxbridge Road.
Starting at South Ealing Cemetery on the South Ealing Road two gas mains are going to be replaced, an 18 inch cast iron low pressure gas main which supports the premises on the road, and a humongous 36 inch cast iron medium pressure gas main that is the core artery for the area carrying gas at 2 bar pressure which is fed into the distribution pipes (like the 18 inch one) at lower pressure.
During the project there will be single lane temporary traffic light control when necessary and the 65 bus will be affected sometimes, so it is worth checking the traffic situation on the South Ealing Road before using (at the moment its just south of Popes Lane junction).
