The business rate goes to central government. A residential property would contribute directly via council tax. Most "local businesses" these days seem to be dirty take-aways and even dirtier "convenience shops" from which the only convenience is 24hr alcohol. One goes wonder if the residents of Southall might prefer better frontline services from the council in terms of road-resurfacing (or at last pothole filing) and pavements in a decent state of repair in their residential roads rather than a giant car park that will only encourage more road traffic into what is a densely populated residential area further lowering the quality of life. The only people to benefit from this will be the so-called "convenience store" vendor and their commercial landlords. I can only speculate at the correlation between commercial propery interests and local business-related ties that are prevalent among Ealing's Labour councillors with relation to Southall that are making them act in such a detrimental way towards their voters who actually live in Southall. Just think of all that extra pollution from 550 extra parking spaces. Oh, and dont forget those disabled and meantally ill in Sothall who will never have need of that car park and certinaly have no disabled centre to go to since our caring Labour Group took over! |
