So much for keeping an eye out for elderly neighbours, so why was this missed? Depending on one's personal definition of "elderly" no-one has pointed out that the age for obtaining an Older Person's Freedom Pass will rise from 06 April 2010 in line with the female retirement age. This means that anyone born after 05 April 1959 will have to wait until he/she is 65 before getting free travel. Those born in 1953 will have to wait until sometime in 2016. As far as I can see Ealing Council has not updated its web-site regarding this very important change. Still it has about 6 weeks before the change becomes noticeable. At first I thought this was a Socialist plot to reduce the number of people applying on the basis of those hardworking souls, who probably vote Conservative, would die of exhaustion before their entitlement age, leaving only the workshy, less-stressed, elderly Socialist sycophants. Yet another form of gerrymandering. On second thoughts I still think I am right. |
