| Chris: fresh seafood smells of the sea. The "fishy smell" is the smell of fish flesh decomposing, which happens very quickly if the produce is not properly handled. Hence a fishmongers that smells strongly fishy is, to my mind, one to be avoided as it suggests either the products are not fresh enough, or the premises is not very hygienically maintained. It's precisely because I do like fish that I avoid fish shops that smell strongly of fish, if you'll excuse all the fishes. |
