| Don’t get me wrong. I am all for extensive development in Ealing Town centre. Where this development failed to tick the boxes is mainly as follows. Not enough recognition that planning should aim to make the borough more self sufficient in providing much more local employment. The planning mentality which refuses to recognise that Ealing needs centres of excellence (business, leisure, arts, education) instead of a row of pound shops, and more pubs for more drunken oiks. Getting the transport hub interchange sorted out . I am also beginning now to think that we should have a road underpass in the centre. The oversized massing and scale. Iconic does not mean super high rise. The poor design The refusal to acknowledge the historical architectural heritage, (this is not something which Hong Kong can now claim and therefore why that argument is not relevant here). The huge amount of opposition to the Tories who refused to listen. It really annoys me that a political party can shoot itself in the foot so effectively - by trampling roughshod over its own local residents. What a way to lose trust and votes. |
