The Council "stands into danger" producing Around Ealing. To preserve the useful bits and to avoid the criticism above it may have been wise to have an group of independent citizens on the editorial board. As an example on Page 14 in a discussion of Local Development Frameworks (plans for town centres) it starts the 4th para,"Meanwhile in the shorter term we have been putting together smaller plans to revitalise each of our town centres. Better cheaper parking...." I have seen plenty of evidence where I live in plans which effectively remove parking by building flats and to further limit worker parking by extending existing CPZs, thereby threatening for example Northfield Ave shop workers. When I proposed "pay on exit" parking in Deans Gardens car park in West Ealing to improve the shopping experience the regeneration portfolio holder showed little interest. That would have produced better and cheaper parking and improved the shopping experience but would have substantially removed the council income (fines for not getting back to your car on time). The recent exhibition of the redevelopment of the Green Man Estate in West Ealing also indicated that current proposals removed rather than improved parking. From my perspective what I see written is not what I see so I write to the editor and see what he has to say. Will I an apology and correction be printed in April's issue ? If not we know where we stand. |
