Sadly I tried to get the British Heart Foundation to collect a king size mattress when I was moving to a smaller house. It was in immaculate condition (I am borderline OCD when it comes to cleanliness and it had always been covered with a mattress protector). Also I had the correct fire labels (£1200 from John Lewis) the guys who came refused to take it as they said it was too heavy. Given it had been carried by my elderly family in the past, I was left speechless. I have since heard similar stories on forums and word-of-mouth. In the end I had to pay a company to recycle it when they delivered the new (smaller) mattress. Such a waste :(
