While I don't think anyone takes Rosco's hyperbole seriously, people who sincerely campaigned against this should perhaps reflect on why they failed to stop it. Unevidenced smears against the people who worked for the CIC and exaggerated and easily disproved claims about the impact of events were counterproductive. It is not true for instance to say that the park is effectively to be closed for 115 days of the year - everyone who goes there with any regularity knows that it is perfectly possible to visit during the set up and dismantling of events and the park is big enough for you to be unaware that this is happening.

The new strategy of the CIC is likely to be very effective - they have targeted mainstream acts which are likely to appeal to an older audience so some of the negative aspects of events will be reduced. Views may differ between drum and bass and Mick Hucknell but most people would rather hear the latter from their gardens on a Saturday evening.
