| I understand the concept of affordable, though I’m not sure the council does. Strange that a supposedly socialist local authority isn’t interested in social housing, which is a different thing to affordable. They demolished rather a lot of the existing ones in the borough in regeneration projects and didn’t replace them. You might be mistaken about developers building things they can’t sell. Still empty housing units around London, brand new but too pricey for what they are. You seem to misunderstand the difference between building housing and creating communities. The obvious answer to the lack of housing is to stick up huge, cheaply built towers with no supporting infrastructure. Effectively what happened in the 1960s here and elsewhere, an experiment that failed. Fast tracking such developments is risky. Somebody has to provide infrastructure otherwise you just create ghettos. Of course there’s no easy solution. |
