| Really Philippa? Strange how you haven’t put on a link for that claim. Councils can build social housing and are given large sums of money to do just that. They don’t even have to build them, but can purchase already completed units. Ealing council did this last year when buying 180 properties in Southall. You also ignore the fact that councils have planning departments and committees that have to approve applications. Rolling over and letting developers build what they like, and often with little or no social housing included. Ealing is particularly poor in that respect, as has been well documented over the years: And not all council housing tenants want to buy their properties. If they did then there wouldn’t be a single social housing unit anywhere. Why does everything you put on a forum end up blaming the Conservatives? They may have been a poor government in many respects but if you haven’t noticed there’s been a Labour administration in power for the last two years. And I won’t mention the 13 years of Blair and Brown that didn’t see the scrapping of Right to Buy. |
