| >Accident statistics reveal swathes of the A4 without a single injury-causing collision. Nigel, nonsense. Do you think insurance companies deal with exactly the same number of claims that you will find in the 'accident statistics'? Your published stats only reveals what goes reported. Remember this too, the speed limit of 30mph across 3 lanes of traffic is to prevent severe injuries at higher speeds. The speed limit works but you won't know that if you don't see any injuries in the stats. >As to driving being more relaxing, hardly, as one encounters countless drivers trying to catch up to recover time lost. I enjoy seeing cars safely emerging from side junctions to join the road I am driving on without me touching the brakes. Frequently, there is a friendly wave from the driver that I have conceded space to. I have not been delayed and as the joining driver will have got to where they are heading for a little quicker, because they have not had to wait for a longer break in the traffic, everybody is a winner. Share the road and slower speeds do make this is a lot more feasible. |
