| The method used to count murders in this country is at odds with how the USA count them and also with logic in my opinion.For instance, when Shipman's horrific spree of killings was brought to light,the complete number(215) of murders was counted as pertaining to one year,ie:the year they were all discovered and he was exposed for what he was.In America,that total would be sub divided into the years in which the murders took place and then attributed to that year.They also count any body found in slightly suspicious circumstances as a murder and they also do not have the classifications of manslaughter and justifiable homicide, but 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree murders,but all counted as murder nonetheless.This distorts the comparison of their murder rates to ours, making us seem like we have a ratio of a lot fewer than is true.o answer the question posed in the op, no I do not think that capital punishment should be reinstated.I would make it easier for any convicted murderer to chose to take their own life in prison by making voluntary euthenasia available to them after serving a certain amount of time, but I have no idea how many, if any,would take that option. |
