I suspect Boris has been spitting feathers all week over the insolence of those within his own party who dare to stand up to him. Like all bullies he’s happy when he gets his way, but finds it hard to cope when he doesn’t. A second referendum would be a sensible and logical step. You would probably have to have a no deal option on there too. The problem is that the leavers don’t want another one because it might negate the previous one. The argument that the last referendum would be binding is a non starter. Parliament is sovereign and we have had an election since that referendum and indeed since article 50 was triggered. The mandate for Brexit has been diluted. It’s certainly time for a fresh start and a rethink by all sides because this country is paralysed now. I’m amazed that there has been talk of stretching, or indeed, breaking the new law prohibiting a no deal Brexit. For the supposed ‘party of law and order’ it sends a very poor message to the masses. |
