I can see your point but it is impossible to claim that most MPs would have voted to initiate Article 50 if they thought it would ultimately lead to no deal. There was an assumption that a deal would be made, which it was with the British Government. There is no 'People's Mandate' for no deal which, at best about a quarter of the population support. The fundamental problem is that parliament pretty faithfully represented the views of the nation a substantial portion of whom wish to stay in the EU and those that don't cannot agree on the basis for departure. The only way to resolve this is to give the final decision a genuine 'People's Mandate' by putting it to another referendum. |
