The ending was clearly intended to refer to current events and if anything was a bit heavy handed. The film refers to an opinion poll held after the war in which 56% were in favour of repatriating the polls (admittedly probably unaware that that would have meant them ending up in a labour camp and probably dying). 'Poles Go Home' was daubed on walls near air bases. 52% of the country voted that subsequent generation of Poles be denied the right to come here freely to work. They clearly intended you to see the parallel even if you failed to pick up on it. |
