| Just to clarify, the ceiling height is mere centimetres lower than it should be, but that prevents a supermarket from being able to use it. The site is still a vast two-storey building (over 3,500 square metres) which could be used for any number of things, although planning consent was given for retail space. Finding another specialist shop that would be willing to take it on is doubtful -- the big departmental stores want to be within shopping malls rather than stuck midway between two shopping precincts as this site is. There are currently 50 car park spaces available on site specifically for the shop, all under cover, which should be more than adequate for a site this size in today's planning environment (and there may well be scope for more parking with a change of use from retail to, say, medical). I'm still hoping for a medical clinic here, but I wonder if anyone has thought of proposing it for use as a school to help offset the increase in population from all the flats being built in the area. |
