Hi Penny. GPs in Ealing are assessing people who show flu-like symptoms. If your son does not have any of the symptoms, then the GP would not need to assess him. Your doctor was probably trying to be helpful in signposting you to the information line so that you could set your mind at rest. If your son does have symptoms, then he should be assessed. Please try not to worry. Most children who have had flu-like symptoms have had only very mild symptoms and have gone back to school after two or three days. But just to clarify, typical symptoms in adults and older children include: high temperature (fever), sweats, muscle aches, a dry cough, sore throat, sneezing and headache. You may also feel sick. Even if you are young and fit, flu can make you ill enough to need to go to bed. Symptoms peak after 1-2 days and then usually gradually ease over several days. An irritating cough may persist for a week or so after other symptoms have gone. Hope that helps. |
