There are two types of commuters; 1) those who drive to Ealing, leave their cars all day and travel on by our many transport links and 2) those who work in Ealing shops and businesses and maybe drive in before public transport is up and running in the morning. Each time a CPZ is introduced or extended there are fewer parking spaces for these workers due to displacement into any remaining non-CPZ areas. Eric Leach has the right idea about the danger to local shops, so why can't the council accept that local businesses and/or employees are just as much a part of the community as residents. Businesses can get a "business vehicle" parking permit but at a cost ten times that of a residents permit. Workers only use parking space vacated by residents who drive off to work elsewhere and in turn, vacate the space at the end of the day. How can this be accommodated in a consultation? |
