Assuming there’s no external water penetration or damp - which tends to produce brown stains rather than black - most internal mould is likely to be caused by the occupants creating water vapour in poorly ventilated spaces. That’s not to say it’s their ‘fault’, as overcrowded living conditions and poverty can be a contributory factor, with unaffordable heating, an understandable resistance to opening windows, and no outside space to dry clothes. But one day’s ‘normal’ domestic activities of washing, cooking and breathing, can release about two and a half litres of water into the air, and it has to go somewhere. |
