| It’s the usual claptrap that the cycling lobbyists put forward. Accident data is always national statistics, making the issue seem far worse than it is, then zero response when asked to produce evidence relating to local roads. Paul has been referred to crashmap before and his usual behaviour is to ignore it. Most people know what happens where they live and most people are normal enough to understand that our roads are pretty safe. There’s certainly not the carnage ad bloodshed people like Paul would have you believe. It means widespread traffic restrictions don’t really make much difference, and can have the unintended consequence of making roads more dangerous as some drivers will speed or jump lights to try to make up for lost time. What would be a better way forward would be to improve driving standards by retesting people every so often. Plus, of course, educating the thick elements on bikes or walking who seem to think that ignoring what’s around them is a safe way to travel. |
