| We've got far too used to not being prepared for bad weather - and just getting into the car when the weather looks a bit iffy. An umbrella just won't do. When I first got into a sailing boat as a child we wore thick woollen jumpers and yellow oilskins - and still got wet and cold. Now everyone even the kids playing in the sea seem to wear wetsuits. Times have changed. There must be an equivalent for non competitive cyclists. The electric cycles available to hire are good and popular and less effort than a non-electrics especially for hills. This is one reason why the buying of cycles will not have continued at the sudden great pace it started with several years ago. I completely agree about the lack of manners and effort to find out and abide by any rules of the road. I was travelling in a car a couple of days ago and counted one particular BMW in front of us change lanes more than 10 times with no use of indicators whatsoever. I was also always taught to walk along the pavement facing the traffic and I don't see a lot of that nowadays either. Far too often groups of people seem to just walk at you and often while chatting or looking at their phones. So it isn't just cyclists. It seems that no group of people is immune from this lack of considerations for others. |
