Reading the article it says that the intention is to build flats to remain in the ownership of the John Lewis Group, and that will be for short- and longterm rental, So not for sale, which rather knocks the idea that they will remain empty or investment objects owned by non-residents and left empty. As for the argument against second homes - take a look at a lot of England and Wales, not to mention France and Spain. There are plenty of British second-home owners who pay local taxes that help subsidize local services. As long as these second homes are not taking affordable housing off the market, where is the harm? |
