It's not unusual for faiths to have an arrangement like this.  Charitable giving and charitable concern for fellow man in particular those in need is considered by many to be a natural way of life.  It is unfortunate for us all that there is such a growth in the me-me-me and me-first cults.  It is detrimental to community spirit.
