| I read that LBE are terminating Amey's contract and bringing the collection back in-house so that they hopefully have more control of the way the work is carried out and the workers are paid better. Maybe all the little terraced houses which have been vandalised by and struggle with the dangerously large and difficult to manoeuvre wheelie bins will get an offer of being allowed smaller ones instead of being told they don't exist when they can see that others have them. I won't hold my breath. All households need to be reminded that they should be putting their recycling in loose and not bagged. It must be time to campaign for a larger charge for carrier bags since so many can obviously afford to throw them away. Sainsbury's changed to thicker plastic carrier bags and I wonder how many people have read what is written on them: "When this bag is worn out you can return it and we will give you a new one free. We will then recycle your old bag. This bag is made from 100% recycled plastic." This is the original meaning of Bag for Life. |
