Check out the Ealing Repair Cafe They have a post on there about Shredstation and the work they are doing to recycle shredded clothing and the huge amount of waste it makes - a the biggest problem being the mixes of fibres and embellishments on fabrics.  There's also an absolutely stunning difference between the amount of water that it takes to make garments in one fabric and with another.
