Not your presumptions Nigel, those of the other poster. The changes in unaccompanied children going to school are largely due to child safety issues, ‘stranger danger’ as they call it. Nothing to do with traffic and the Green Criss Code (although there are plenty of adults who would benefit from that training). It’s school policy and parents are reprimanded for not adhering to it. School streets are fine, although having them operate outside term time is nonsensical. Often parents are dropping kids off on their way to work, which partly explains the drop in numbers. Of course, the other reason why there’s less traffic during holidays is that a lot of people are actually on holiday and not heading to work.
