https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21443439 The first Ultra Low Emission Zone was announced by the Mayor of London - Boris Johnson - in 2013. He stepped down before it was put in place. This extension which we have known about for some time was delayed. The intention is to get older more polluting vehicles off the road and clean up our air. The BAME community according to research is more likely to be affected by air pollution because they are living where the pollution is higher. Various scrappage schemes have been announced. You may need to be in receipt of one benefit or another. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/scrappage-schemes Govts have failed to reduce our air pollution (it might make them unpopular) and even lobbied the EU to change the figures so that our air pollution here did not seem so bad. They've been taken to the High Court and lost the case over our illegal air pollution - more than once. |
