You will be very unlikely to get a high data rate using wireless from your modem. There is a legal transmitted power limit, and signals will be both reflected and absorbed by the surroundings to give a poor signal to noise ratio and data loss. Data via the mains wiring can work, but at the expense of interference to almost any and every kind of electronic equipment nearby. While standard Cat5E cable is generally OK for small buildings, BT suggest using Cat6 for new installations. |
