I take the point about what was said at the time of the referendum but the nation can't be bound for ever by something David Cameron said three years ago. He made unsustainable promises because he never imagined that Leave would win the referendum. The problem with the commitments he made should have been obvious to him at the time and is certainly clear to us now. This isn't a simple binary issue or a straight uncomplicated choice between being in or out. A large proportion of people who still want to leave the EU don't want to do so if the terms of that departure are not to their liking. Therefore any form of Brexit would be carrying out the wishes of a very small proportion of the population. |
