| Only one in three restaurants or take aways survives beyond two years. On the 'curry mile' into Bradford a restaurant was branded a success if it made 100 days! The margins are high but the experience low. The problem is that they are easy to open, anyone can make a stab at cooking something and we live in a convenience culture where it is easier to buy than prepare - no matter how bad the food is. I am probably the worst type of customer for these places. I have my 'trusted' outlets (still can't get my home made curries tasting like those from my favourite restaurant) and I am loathe to risk my tastebuds or worse on something that has been a 'batter and bones, a burget joint, a pizzarea and a 'fusion'(we cook everything and bung it on the one plate) outlet in the last six months. |
