For someone who is meant to foster volunteering you appear to have a very limited interest in actually allowing vounteers to do anything. Everything involves risk and the important point here is even if someone could take you to a tribunal would they? This is where business management comes in, assessing the risk and doing something (or nothing). I think you will find that you can make someone in a particular job redundant and then re-create that job six months later with impunity (same title, same role, probably a lower salary, however). If you create a slightly different job role (different grade, or job title, e.g. Assistant technical librarian, rather the Deputy technical librarian then you can make someone redundant today and re-fill the position tomorrow. Highly unethical, however, legal. What I ask you is do actually want to foster practical volunteering, or not? If not, then why are you being paid? |
