Thanks Ed, It is certainly a challenging time for volunteering and the need for volunteering to be protected from coercion and being used to exploit vulnerable people is acute. We have been working with partners across London to support volunteering and the effective management of volunteers to keep them safe through Greater London Volunteering Experts in Volunteering Programme. Details are at http://www.expertsinvolunteering.org.uk/index.php. There is nothing wrong with properly resourced, managed and dynamic volunteering programmes which add value and build capacity of organizations to deliver responsive services. The notion that this can be provided for free is however misguided. Kind regards Lizzie Saunders Volunteer Centre Manager |
