For what it's worth I'd back the call to get one from a charity (CPL is good) rather than a vets - all of ours have been from Wood Green Animal Shelter or similar, and have enjoyed great tabby (mongrel!) health for years.

Buying from a pet shop raises all sorts of issues, from the way they keep them (tiny cages in the window), through to what health precautions have been taken, and of course cost (350? All ours have been about a tenner!).

Good luck and stick with the random charity tabby, even if your CPL application is unsuccessful! They're indestructible, deserving, and lovable. The pet shops don't need encouraging.
