By the way, the fare complexity is partly due to the weird way Oyster was extended to National Rail services, which has led to some really odd consequences like it being a lot cheaper to go into Zone 1 from West Ealing (£2.70/£2.40) than from Brentford (£4.20/£3.40).  It's not just the zones that are the issue here, it's the farescales. [Boris's attitude to rail can be rather summed up by the TfL Board, which has two representatives with a railway background, the same number as the taxi industry has]
