With apologies to the Author, I have lifted this from the TW8 website as it is just as important to Northfields, Boston Manor and Hanwell residents: TfL and the rail operators are to be involved in a review with the aim of simplifying fares in the Greater London area.. This will involve taking a look at zones. About time too. Boston Manor which is just a short distance from Northfields is in Zone 4 yet is in W7 The gap between Boston Manor and Osterley is one of the longest on the Piccadilly line. Brentford should also be in zone 3 as is Kew Bridge. Brentford and Boston Manor though are served by bus links that are in Zone 3 Richmond is likewise The gaps thereafter are far more natural and residential areas have a much higher proportion of off street parking. It was noticable that when fares increased and the zone system differentials widened that Northfields and South Ealing had a huge increase in commuter parking which led to the CPZs in areas where parking was very limited. Now this problem has receded with the Oyster card but key facilities are being lesser used because the zone boundaries are so close to other stations. A change to zone 3 for the two key stations would redress this and make it easier for local people to use their local stations. There is also a possibility to lobby for a reinstatement of at least one fast train per hour on the Brentford loop which again brings the only means of getting into the centre of London in less than 20 mins. Efforts to give this sort of fast link have benefitted commuters from the South East and North of London but coming in from the western Greater London area is slower than from the outer satellites like Woking. So time to get writing to Boris and co. |
