On the face of it, the Council dropping the Ealing Literary Feastival seems barmy. New Book Clubs and Reading Groups seem to be starting up all over the place - West Ealing Neighbours and Ealing Transition Town being two of recent note. I fear the Tory approach to all things is that festivals - like car parking - need to make a profit. And talking about obvious Ealing Festivals....if Ealing is known for anything around the world it's Ealing Film Studios. So what about an annual Film Festival? Drama, literature and cinema also seem to go together - so why not all three? Of course it would help if we had a cinema, a professional theatre and more than one book shop in the Ealing Metropolitan Town Centre. |
