| I've only read bits and pieces of this thread, so apologies if I'm duplicating anything that's already been said. My points are ... (1) Foxes have occasionally been known to give cats trouble, but not very often. Sometimes it's the reverse. The domestic moggy is a superb fighting machine and, pound for pound, is far more powerful (and agile) than a fox. On at least two occasions I've noticed the latter give a wide berth to the former. (2) Don't take too much notice of the anti-fox prejudices of ex-Tory councillor Graham Weeks. Contrary to what he says, foxes are not as bad as rats (for the obvious reason that the latter are far more numerous and are much more likely to get inside people's homes). (3) When people like Graham Weeks argue that the fox population needs to be controlled, they omit to mention that organised hunts actually breed foxes for the purpose of hunting. (Why breed something if it's such a pest?). (4) In relation to my first point, I just want to say I'm not anti-cat, in fact they're my favourite animals. I just don't fall for the wholesale demonisation of foxes that the hunting fraternity (and their apologists) like to indulge in. |
