I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a shopping centre. I think West Ealing is fantastic for food with a great choice and, I agree, a good fishmonger and butcher. We're never going to return to the days of Rowses and Daniels. As for regeneration, by far the biggest influence on regeneration will be the redevelopment of the Green Man Lane estate which, in due course, will bring in some hundreds of new residents. But the effects of this are some years off with an 8-year completion date. Having said that, there are other ways to start to regenerate without expecting the Council to wave a magic wand. At West Ealing Neighbours we have already put forward to the Council some detailed proposals about improving the Lido Junction which, for some, marks their limit as it's too dangerous to cross. We have also worked on some specific ideas to make better use of the pedestrian area at the top of St James Avenue. In themselves perhaps small possible changes but it's often small changes that add up to a significant shift in an area and influence how residents and shoppers perceive it. |
