| ‘I’m alright, Jack’ says Paul James. Just about sums up his attitude. Parks are there for the benefit of all the community, not just the smug numpties. They took away the bowls club there, replacing it with an expensive mini golf offer. They let the old sports facilities fall apart and eventually replaced them with a much more expensive to use offer. Monetising everything isn’t an improvement despite the puff and PR. It just excludes a sizeable proportion of the local population from using a local amenity, not to mention the noise and disruption to those living close to the park. Saying it’s just for a few days a year misses the point. This happens during the summer when park usage is at its highest. |
