There’s a lot of nonsense about rewilding. Do it in your garden and pretty soon you’ll be fighting your way through a mass of brambles, bindweed, dandelions and any other unpleasant weed you can think of. Doesn’t make for a relaxing experience. Problem with certain weeds is they dominate and you end up with less diversity than one would find in a well maintained garden. Talk to any professional gardener and they will tell you to have a small area left untended but having a wide range of different plants is better for pollinators and other creatures coming into the garden. Various flower shapes, successional flowering times and perhaps a water feature such as a small pond too. Even a wildflower meadow needs tending, cutting down at the time of year and any grass raked up, otherwise you just end up with long grass after a couple of years. The policy of rewilding parks is just laziness and cost cutting by the council. Ironically there’s a council owned block of flats near where I live. Every two months they send a tram out to strim everything into oblivion. Not a flower left! |
