If councillors are being 'named, shamed and ejected' from their parties, does this not tend to contradict your claims of a terminal decline in standards of public life? I am not so familiar with events in Hounslow but I am aware that one councillor was dethroned due to lack of effort, however among the others there would be Guy Lambert whose reputation for hard work on behalf of his constituents has crossed the border. It hardly strengthens your case that you have to look at another borough for examples. However, for all the sound and fury from some people on this matter, not one councillor has been identified as verifiably doing a poor job for their ward and the council in general. This is surprising as there must be some, one thing that people with experience in these matters agree on is that lazy and feckless councillors do exist in every authority. However, due to the failure of anyone to single out such like in Ealing, I'm starting to think we may be blessed with a unique slate of diligent and committed representatives. |
