The honours system seems now to go to people for merely doing their job for which they have invariably been well remunerated. On that basis we should all get honoured. Really, if we have them honours should go to perhaps volunteers who have given of their time & attention to others less fortunate. It’s reached the point now where the real honours go to those who turn them down.  Albert Finney was one such- he was offered a knighthood twice and turned it down twice. Ken Livingstone also. Offered an CBE ( or OBE not sure which) turned an honour down on the basis that he was well paid for a job he enjoyed & that was enough for him. Not often I put a good word in for Ken but there we are.
